At the age of ten, I was confident of two things:

One: I was in love with my best friend, Sadie Beaufort.

Two: One day, when we were old and gross like our parents, we would get married. However, I was pretty sure we wouldn’t have kids. Rumour had it that making babies was also gross.

At fifteen, Sadie still owned my heart, but things began to change. For example, the whole baby-making process seemed much, much more appealing.
